New Catalogs & New Stamp Clubs

The weather had finally started to warm up here in Maine.  It has been almost 60 degrees for a couple days in a row.  I am grateful for that. I hate stalking the  man with the big brown truck when it is cold out. :) Trust me, I will be waiting at my front door next week since he will be bringing me 3 cases of BRAND NEW STAMPIN’ UP! 2013-2014 CATALOGS.

Stamp Club-001

Would you like to see what one looks like? My Stamp Club Members will be getting theirs first. I will be starting two new local clubs in June.  One club is being held in the Bucksport, Me area.  The other is being held in my home in Norway, ME.

What are the benefits of being part of a “Inky Fingers Stamp Club?”

You will get to try products and techniques before you buy them.

Everyone has a turn at earning the hostess credits.  These can be spent on any items in the catalog.  It is your choice to use them on hostess only products or not.  You can increase your hostess credits by taking outside orders.

You will leave with 3 completed projects–usually these are cards, but sometimes it will be scrapbook pages or 3D items.

You will receive your own copy of Stampin Up’s Idea Book & Catalog absolutely free.

You will not have to clean your house to have everyone over.

Doesn’t that sound like so much fun???  I can see you shaking your head yes.  Give me a call or email to join today.

Just For You with Papillon Potpourri Tutorial

butterfly 3x3 folded cards

Last week I said I would share with you how I made these cards.  As you know, school vacation really sent me for a loop.  I am finally getting caught up.

I learned this technique from Cathy Aurtrey at a local Stampin’ Up! demonstrator gathering back in January.  She made hers using the heart punch for Valentine’s Day.  Once she explained it to me, I knew I had to make these cute little cards. **Any symmetrical punch will work for this type of card.

To start, the card base is actually Designer Series paper cut 3″ x 9″. Score it at 1 1/2″, 3″, 6″ and 7 1/2″.  It should look like this:

Microsoft Word - Document1The 1 1/2″ and 7 1/2″ score lines are where you will line up the center of your symmetrical punch.  In this case the Elegant Butterfly Punch. butterfly punch template Here is what it will look like when you  are ready to punch.  I placed the punch so the paper was all the way to the base of the Designer Series Paper.green butterfly template

In this photo the green butterfly shows where the empty space is when you have punched on the 1 1/2″ &  7 1/2″ inch score lines  and folded the paper back.

When the card is folded, it is a 3″x3″ card.

I bet you are wondering how I aligned the stamped image with the punched image. I placed a square piece of Whisper White card stock on the center of the card. It measured 2 3/4″x 2 3/4″.

butterfly stampamajig

Then I used my  handy dandy Stamp-a-ma-jig. A GREAT tool if you need to line images up perfectly. I actually stamped in River Rock, but on the plastic layer of the Stamp-a-ma-jig I used a dark blue color so it would show on camera.

Once the inside of the card was stamped, I used the banner framelits to cut a small banner to help keep the card closed when it is folded.

I placed the set of cards along with mini envelopes in a kraft gift box.  I wrapped some ribbon on the outside of the box and gave it to my hostess.  Now she has small gift cards to put on a package any time she needs one.

Happy Birthday Cupcake

Sorry I am behind this past week. Last week was school vacation, the daycare I work for was busy all week which meant I worked all day everyday.  We kept the children very busy (and the adults too).  We went hiking & made gnome houses for the wood gnomes. We went to the circus, which entailed several hours on a school bus. We went roller skating. I need a vacation after vacation.  I went to bed early every night.

Mountain view

This is a view from our hike. It wasn’t a super sunny day, which made it nice for the hike.  The kids were warm but not too hot.  They like to whine when they get to hot :)  I think I may have to play with My Digital Studio a little with some of the photos.

Ok, now back to stamping. Here is a quick and simple card that only takes a few minutes to make.  Changing the colors can change it from being girlish to boyish. I have  made this card in blues & greens, which made an adorable card for a boy.

make a wish femaleThis is a must have in your arsenal of quick card ideas.  A card base, a little Designer Series Paper, a Big Shot Die, and the cupcake punch.

I wish I had taken a better photo of this card.  It looks very flat.  However, the yellow Designer Series Paper (DSP) is actually on the inside of the card.  I took my standard size card and cut about an inch and a quarter off the right hand side.  The DSP is cut about one and half inches and placed on the inside of the card. The whisper white card stock cut with the top note die is adhered to the front left side of the card only.

Say Thanks A Ton With Coffee

whale kcup holderIn my house, there is no such thing as too much coffee.  My husband drinks coffee by the pot not the cup.

Many people now have the coffee machines that use the specialized coffee pods.  We have a Keurig machine. As do many family members and friends.

I love to give little thinking of you gifts.  Usually they contain some sort of chocolate.  I went a different path with this project.  I saw many samples of K-cup holders on Pinterest.  Many people had different tutorials etc.  I found one I liked and tried it out.  I have only been wanting to make one of these for a year.  I guess somethings you just can’t rush.

My first attempt didn’t look half bad until I realized I had not punched a place for the handle. I STRONGLY recommend you punch the handle before you adhere everything together with red sticky strip.  The punches don’t fit in that small space after the box is put together.  I bet you can guess how I found this out.  Anyhow, I played around with it until I came up with this.

Here is my K-cup tutorial if you would like to try it yourself.  This is a project I sent to everyone who has signed up for my mailing list. If you enjoyed this project, sign up for my newsletter today.

whale you be mineWhale You Be Mine? Ok, so Valentines is over, but it never hurts to show the people you love you are thinking of them. Also, I just got this set so I am playing with it a lot. So much for getting it for my daughter.  It’s a good thing I have taught her to share :)

Everything in this card is pretty straight forward. The extra touches are mostly done in Real Red.  I embossed a small layer in the Needleoint Border and punched out hearts with the small heart punch.  Added a little rhinestone for some bling.  Romantic cards always need a little bling.

Questions & Answers

Q&AQ: The new This and That journals look cool. In what ways are people using them? This and That Product Line by Stampin' Up!A: Our latest This and That product line is based on a growing trend of smash books. They go
back to the roots of scrapbooking when people created memory books filled with photos and
mementos. Today’s scrapbooks can truly be a work of art to be cherished as a family heirloom,
but some scrapbookers prefer to go back to a simpler and faster way of capturing what is
happening in their lives. So, are you still wondering what it’s all about?

    • Do you remember doodling in your school notebook? It’s like that!
    • Have you ever created an Imagery Board for your wall or collages of magazine pictures
that you like or places you want to go? It’s like that!
    • Have you ever had a journal you kept in the past and stopped because you just wanted to
add a journal entry when you felt inspired instead of chronologically? It’s like that!
    • Have you ever collected ideas and inspiration from several different sources for a
school project, a home renovation, a wedding, a party, or maybe a garden? It’s like
      that!
    • Ever wanted to have a place to add your favorite quotes when you hear them? It’s
      like that!
    • Need a place to collect all your love notes, recipes, or funny quotes from your kids? Yeah,
      it’s like that, too!

I could go on and on because, as with most crafting products, the only limitation for using
This and That journals is your imagination! But, I will leave you with this last idea –
basically, it’s Pinterest on paper.

The Best Things in LIfe

quilt with pinwheelThe Best Things in Life Aren’t Things is a wonderful verse and philosophy. Here is a quick and simple card.  I thought the pattern would be much harder than it was.

I believe this style of layering is called quilting but I am not sure.  However, like I said it wasn’t as hard as I thought.  I punched 12 squares with the postage punch out of two designs of Designer Series Paper. I alternated the pattern.  I do suggest laying the design out before adhering it down permanently.

Stamp the verse on Whisper White card stock.  Cut it out with an oval framelit ( believe I used the 3rd smallest framelit. I am not sure and I have already given the card away. A small pinwheel was cut using the Pinwheel Sizzlits Die. Next, punch a small heart using the Owl Punch. Place it in the small bottle cap. Put a layer of Crystal Effects over the heart filling the bottle cap.  I set this aside over night so the Crystal Effects would dry level and have a nice shiny gloss to it.

The square punches were adhered to the cards with snail adhesive. The oval and pinwheel were raised using dimensionals.  Easy peasy. Write a note to someone to let them know how special they are to you.  The receiver will love it.  Not only did you take the time to think of them, make a card and mail it to them;  they will be happy to get a work of art in the mail instead of a bill. 😛

New Slim Wood Mount Stamp Cases

New Slim Wood Mount Cases

I can’t wait for these new cases to come out at the end of May. I use a CD/DVD stand to hold my stamps as it is. I thought it was great when the clear stamps started to fit on the shelves without me having to repackage them. Now wood mount will fit on my shelf as well.

I love the multi-purpose ideas Stampin Up has come up with. I bet they would be cute boxes for small presents. I am not sure I would use them to hold my lunch, but you never know.

Did you see the stamp set they sampled? Hmmm I hope that is a sneak peek from the new catalog. Do you think they will match the framelit from Hearts a Flutter from the spring catalog?

What creative ideas do you think you would use these cases for?

Bombs Away Birthday

Bombs away copyAnother photopolymer stamp set is released today. These stamps are awesome. Not only do they work with clear blocks, but the stamps themselves are clear for exact positioning.

I just love the sassy sayings on this stamp set. Especially the one about the singing at the restaurant.  My husband works for a chain of restaurants that sing to you on your birthday. Since he is the boss, the staff HAD to sing to him once on of our children told staff members it was his birthday on the way to the restroom.

Did you see the cassette tape in the corner.  I think I will case that project.  I don’t think our 8 year old daughter even knows what a cassette tape is.  I will have to see if the dollar store has cassette tape…Oh the wheels are spinning!

What crazy, I mean creative ideas can you come up with?
