Scrapbook Challenges

Hi Stampers, welcome back to my Creative Spa!

Have you ever needed inspiration? I know I have needed it, and on Saturday, I got it.  VDS (virtual stamping day) Challenges gave me a jumping point.  I completed two challenges.  Scrapbook challenges even.  I am more of a scrapbooker wannabe than a real scrapbooker.

The first challenge I completed had to be about water.  First finding a picture I had was a challenge.  I found it very irritating, because last summer I took so many pictures while watching my daughter and all her cousins poolside.  <Grrrrr>  I FINALLY found one that was several years old.

In the south, they call it being a redneck.  Here it is called Maine ingenuity. The kids didn’t feel the slip’n slide was big enough.  Add a few tarps and a little dish soap for speed and the kids had a blast.

It is an extremely simple design.  An 8″x8″ piece of Tempting Turquoise card stock.  I stamped the images from Work of Art and Feel Goods with Pacific Point ink.  The photo is layered onto a piece of Rose Red card stock.

Simple but fun.  It brought back many memories of doing this at my aunts house.  Now, she has a pool.  The hill is gone.  It was something the kids-little and big- enjoyed at one time.

The second challenge had to do with food.  I wasn’t going to do this challenge.  Then someone posted a scrapbook page using a Project Life app.  I didn’t even know there was such a thing.  So, I followed suit and used Simply Sent.  It was an app Stampin’ Up! had to promote My Digital Studio.  IMG_1360

The pasta dish is something I made at some point. The sandwich is from a restaurant near my family called Big G’s.  They make the bread fresh every day, and that sandwich is as big as my lap!! I got four meals out of it!  And of course being from Maine, I had to show some lobsters that we cooked one night for dinner.  (I think I ate two of the three).

What will you challenge yourself to create today?

Hexagon Hive Soccer Scrapbook

Good Morning Stampers.  Yesterday, I mentioned I learned how to make a soccer ball with the Hexagon Hive Framelit from Lynn Starzl.  As soon as I saw her little soccer card, I knew I HAD TO HAVE the Hexagon Hive Framelit.

My daughter had played soccer last fall and between myself and the school photographer, I ended up with several nice digital photos.  Now I need to get them printed.

My daughter is also participating in Spring Indoor Soccer.  I may be making lots of soccer ball scrapbook pages and cards for coaches.

imageI cut the Hexagon Hive Framelit from Basic Black card stock and then glued it to a piece of Whisper White.  I the then placed everything on my magnetic  plate in my Big Shot.  When using the Circle Framelits to make the balls, you can get at least two depending on the size of the balls you make.  In this photo, I used the 3rd and 4th circles from the center of the set.

The base of the scrapbook page is a piece of 8″x8″ Soft Sky card stock.  The grass is Wild Wasabi cut 1 1/2″x8″.  I used the Fringe Scissors to make the grass. I cut a photo frame 4 1/4″x 6 1/4″.  Finally, I used the Banner Punch to cut So Saffron banners to trim the photo. The year was stamped using ABC-123 Alphabet & Number  clear stamp set with Tempting Turquoise ink.

I’m off to the store to pick up my photos.

Suppllies needed to make this project:

  • 133325 Fringe Scissors
  • 132965 Hexagon Hive Thinlits Die
  • 130911 Circles Collections Framelits
  • 113439 Big Shot Die Cutting Machine

Grammie’s Garden

Here is another scrapbook page I made using My Digital Studio. vcr challenge-001

Another reason I like My Digital Studio (MDS) is not only do you have all the selections of Designer Series Paper Stampin’ Up! has ever made; you can make your own backgrounds using your photos.

The background here is a photo I took of my mother’s tulip.  I adjusted the opacity of the photo so it looks more like background paper.  It also allows the other photos to pop.  I added a little journaling to describe our day.

One thing about My Digital Studio is once you make a design, you can have multiple copies made without doing any extra work.  Once this page was done, two copies could be printed.  One for Grammie and one for me.  My Digital Studio is great for scrapbookers who don’t have much time or don’t want the mess.  Everything can be right on your computer.  All the papers and embellishments along with all your photos from your digital camera.

Make sure you download your FREE 30 DAY TRIAL TODAY!

Shoes and Rings and MDS, Oh My!

me 8x8-001corrected

Yesterday I commented how I missed my flip-flops and had actually had a scrapbook

page about them. There is an actual story behind it.  I don’t just scrapbook about my shoes normally.  I have copied and pasted the post below from my old blog.  It was originally posted May 2011.
I am determined to learn how to use My  Digital Studio from Stampin Up!  There was a challenge on VC Rocks this week to make a scrapbook page with a photo of just yourself.  Well first of all, I am the one usually taking the pictures-so I am not in that many.  Second, to find where the heck I put the photos….

So here is my silly little story of a picture I took of myself two days ago.  Oddly it is of my hand and foot-not my face.

More of the story:

At the end of my daughter dance recital, when all the parents were in the hallway I saw a lady wearing a pair of these shoes.  I grabbed my mother’s arm and said “Look at those shoes!  They would match my ring!”

So after going out to eat, I had to go to the mall.  I went to 4 or 5 stores before finding them.  describing them to different clerks, walking up and down rows and rows of shoes.  And finally, there they were right near the window!!  And they were on sale for $12.99!

I was so excited I had to tell all my facebook friends/family about them.  The first response was from my mother making sure I had not mugged the poor lady from the dance recital someplace. (Really, how desperate does my mother think I am???).

Have you tried My Digital Studio yet?  Did you know you can get a 30 DAY FREE TRIAL? Fathers Day/Summer Scrapbook Page

Here is a page I did for my June stamp club.  This was inspired by a card made by my “stamping sister” Connie Staples at a downline meeting.  She made a great

fathers day scrapbook page

little card with a BBQ grill on it that said Happy Father’s Day.  Well, it was almost Father’s Day when we met for stamp club, so I switched it up to a scrapbook page and incorporated a new alphabet stamp set.  I used the word Father because it didn’t use the same letter twice and I was trying to think of something simple for my ladies to use. Once there one of the ladies said “you could have turned the ‘w’ upside down and had it say SUMMER”.  Oh, if only I was that clever.

Anyhow, here how I made a fun scrapbook page using punches.  I love finding more ways to use punches since they are an investment.  I started off with an 8″x8″ Soft Sky background.  Added and 8″x2″ strip of Pear Pizzazz and snipped it across the top with my scissors. The grill is punched with the 1 3/4″ circle punch out of Basic Black. The grilling surface and legs are punched with the Word Window Punch from Smokey Slate card stock.  Also, the Word Window Punch was double punched from Basic Black.**  If you click on the photo to enlarge it, you will see a little handle on the grill and a little red hamburger, those are just scraps of the Smokey Slate and Real Red card stock cut using the Holiday Ornament Framelit set.  It’s just a piece of the top of any ornament in that set.  Or if you have the top of the retired ornament punch, that will work too. Finally, I used my paper piercer and mat to add mini brads to give it the look of hardware.  You know how men like their version of bling :)  Oops, I forgot the verse.  I placed all the letters from the new ABC-123 Sketch Alphabet & Number set and inked them with a marker.  Different verses that could be placed on here are BBQ, SUN IN THE FUN,  SUMMER FUN or maybe even MY DAD.

** Double punched refers to punching a shape once and reinserting part of the punched piece back into the punch and punching it again.  Note to self: make a video showing this.

This share was put off a little bit due to the fact my friends at VC Rocks are having a little blog hop featuring Punches, the Big Shot,  and Simply Scoring Tool.  I thought this project fit in perfectly with  that theme.  Feel free to check them out.  They are a group of very talented ladies.

Puppy Love or Kitten Love?

Guess what I found on my computer today, while looking for a photo of my husband for a “paper” scrapbook page. I found this project I made using My Digital Studio back in 2008.  Perhaps in July or August. Unfortunately I don’t remember the colors, font etc.  If I had to guess, I would say Chocolate Chip for the background, Real Red for the font and bow colors.  I am not sure which blues.  Oh well.

puppy love postThe photo I took was in color originally. The I made a duplicate layer in black and white and “erased” the black and white that was on my daughter’s shirt.  It really was that color red.  The cat was black to begin with, so that didn’t really change anything. Don’t ask me how I did it, I don’t remember other than following an YouTube Video.

Here is that baby kitten today.

jjA mere 16 pound cat….

She thinks she is the ruler the house and the other animals. If she thought she was any more of a queen, she would need a crown 😀

Nothing Like Playing In The Dirt

Here is a page I created using My Digital Studio. I used the Today & Everyday Designer Photobook Template. I just love the templates in My Digital Studio.

Digging in the dirt-011

The page is complete, all that needs to be done is drop and drag the photos.  Easy Peazy.

I love the fact my daughter and all her cousins get along great.  They all play together-boys & girls, with little fighting depending on who is showing their “Coombs Attitude” on any particular day.

Here they were playing outside at a birthday party. It was warm and sunny and the kids wanted to go sledding.  And they did, on their bottoms.  I have not seen so much dirt embedded into childrens’ clothing before.  It was worth the mud in the washing machine because they had a great day together.  It’s nice to know kids still like to play outside in the dirt, and don’t always need electronics to entertain them.

Don’t forget the 25% of My Digital Studio Special is still going on. You have until June 15 to order select downloads and printing products at a great discount.

Questions & Answers

Q&AQ: The new This and That journals look cool. In what ways are people using them? This and That Product Line by Stampin' Up!A: Our latest This and That product line is based on a growing trend of smash books. They go
back to the roots of scrapbooking when people created memory books filled with photos and
mementos. Today’s scrapbooks can truly be a work of art to be cherished as a family heirloom,
but some scrapbookers prefer to go back to a simpler and faster way of capturing what is
happening in their lives. So, are you still wondering what it’s all about?

    • Do you remember doodling in your school notebook? It’s like that!
    • Have you ever created an Imagery Board for your wall or collages of magazine pictures
that you like or places you want to go? It’s like that!
    • Have you ever had a journal you kept in the past and stopped because you just wanted to
add a journal entry when you felt inspired instead of chronologically? It’s like that!
    • Have you ever collected ideas and inspiration from several different sources for a
school project, a home renovation, a wedding, a party, or maybe a garden? It’s like
    • Ever wanted to have a place to add your favorite quotes when you hear them? It’s
      like that!
    • Need a place to collect all your love notes, recipes, or funny quotes from your kids? Yeah,
      it’s like that, too!

I could go on and on because, as with most crafting products, the only limitation for using
This and That journals is your imagination! But, I will leave you with this last idea –
basically, it’s Pinterest on paper.

Big Daddy Cool & MDS

Today I am posting this photo for two reasons.

  1.  to shKirsten & Kevin Nashpostow you what types of scrapbook pages you can make with my digital studio.
  2. to see if my darling husband actually reads my website or Facebook page.

So nobody tell him this is a test.  Just kidding.  So the other day I said the Seriously Teen Kit was awesome.  I said it was a must have, if you have boys.  Well, it works well for girls too.

Our local high school had professional wrestlers come for a meet and greet and autograph signing.  Then they had a real night of wresting with the “Maine event” being Kevin Nash aka Big Daddy Cool. It was a wonderful fundraiser.

My daughter has watched wrestling with her father since she was born.  I hate to say, that isn’t an exaggeration. She can tell you who they are, identify entrance music within a few notes, and repeat their tag lines. So watching wrestling has become their thing to do together.

Of course, as soon as we found out Kevin Nash was coming to our town; she had to have tickets.  She had a blast.  She went in the wrestling ring (and was promptly told she couldn’t be in there by security).  She yelled so loudly at the wrestlers, they actually started yelling back.  My husband said she was a little Vicki Guerrero.  You have to know wrestling to get that reference. Sorry, I don’t have time to explain it.  Needless to say, she and other local children had so much fun.

I took two of the photos from the signing to make this 12″x12″ page. I hope they will both be surprised when the actual printed pages arrive from Stampin Ups printing service.

Supplies needed for this project:

  • # 130647 My Digital Studio Discs or # 130646 My Digital Studio download
  • # 133475 Seriously Teen Kit Digital Download

Love Is In The Air

Valentine’s Day was only a few weeks ago.  Did you do anything special? Here is a super simple scrapbook layout to remember those special moments. Isn’t it just adorable??heartscrapbook pages full1

Both pages are 8″x8″.  They were super fast and easy to put together. The  Sycamore Street Designer Series Paper is cute 7 3/4″x 2″.  The white scallops were punched with the scallop boarder punch.

On the first page:

The journaling box is a 3″ x 3″ piece of whisper white, layered on 3 1/4″ x 3 1/4″ pool party. Red glimmer paper is punched with the heart punch. Large rhinestones and a heart paperclip with a piece of Sycamore ribbon adorn the journaling box.

On the second page:

The large heart is cut from whisper white using the largest heart framelit and is paper pierced for extra dimension.  The heart is adorned with a button and ribbon from the Sycamore button/ribbon bundle, and red glimmer paper punched with the 7/8″ scallop punch.  “Love” is written with the silver dazzle marker.

Now my husband and I will have to go do something special and have a photo taken of us since he had to work on Valentine’s Day.
