Chalkboard Technique aka My First Video

Chalkboard Technique video card

Here is a card I made using the chalkboard technique.  Most cards I have seen & created have had a white gel pen “frame” around the edges. Today I tried something a little different.

Originally, I wanted to make one brightly colored 3D flower from Secret Garden to add some pop to a chalkboard technique.  I didn’t like it.  I had a “frame” and the flowers looked a little awkward….in the trash they went (well the scrap pile for later anyways).  From there I decided to place the verse in the middle, and then I thought what the heck, I would use Secret Garden the way I normally do when I use colored ink.  Filler flowers first, then the solid ones. Rhinestones to dot the “i”s for a little bling.

So here is my very first video tutorial.  I was so nervous making it and I was the only one home.  Who would say anything to me?? The dog or two cats :)  I sure hope you like it.

Sunshine & Rain Showers

The Best Things in LIfe

quilt with pinwheelThe Best Things in Life Aren’t Things is a wonderful verse and philosophy. Here is a quick and simple card.  I thought the pattern would be much harder than it was.

I believe this style of layering is called quilting but I am not sure.  However, like I said it wasn’t as hard as I thought.  I punched 12 squares with the postage punch out of two designs of Designer Series Paper. I alternated the pattern.  I do suggest laying the design out before adhering it down permanently.

Stamp the verse on Whisper White card stock.  Cut it out with an oval framelit ( believe I used the 3rd smallest framelit. I am not sure and I have already given the card away. A small pinwheel was cut using the Pinwheel Sizzlits Die. Next, punch a small heart using the Owl Punch. Place it in the small bottle cap. Put a layer of Crystal Effects over the heart filling the bottle cap.  I set this aside over night so the Crystal Effects would dry level and have a nice shiny gloss to it.

The square punches were adhered to the cards with snail adhesive. The oval and pinwheel were raised using dimensionals.  Easy peasy. Write a note to someone to let them know how special they are to you.  The receiver will love it.  Not only did you take the time to think of them, make a card and mail it to them;  they will be happy to get a work of art in the mail instead of a bill. 😛

Friend Frame

she thought she could frame

One of my all time favorite simple pleasures is finding that really cool item at a really cheap price. The dollar store is one of my favorite stores to shop when I want to make or alter a craft item.
Here is a white  frame I found at the dollar store. It also has a white ribbon hanger on it as well that doesn’t show in the picture.  Needless to say I bought a stack of these frames.

The opening is 3.5″x3.5″.  So that’s how large I cut my Basic Black card stock. I stamped this using the chalkboard technique. This was my very first attempt at it.

If you aren’t familiar with the chalkboard technique it is very easy.  Stamp on black card stock with a white craft pad or white Stazon ink. Quickly cover your project with white embossing powder for a clearer white image. The heat emboss.  Then drag the edge of your white pad directly across the black card stock.  There you go, nice & simple.

Supplies needed for this project:

  • # 121045 Basic Black Card Stock
  • # !06960 Staz-on White Ink Pad OR # 101731 Whisper White Craft Pad
  • # 109132 White Stampin’ Emboss Powder
  • # 129053 Heat Tool
  • Picture Frame from local store

Laughter Is…Feel Goods

The very first stamp set I knew I HAD TO HAVE from the Spring Catalog was Feel Goods.

pink secret garden

I especially liked the verse She believed she could so she did. All the verses are wonderful, inspiring and  make me think of my BFF’s. (Best Friends Forever if you don’t speak teenager.)  Secret Garden was one of those sets that I thought it was pretty but not really me until I go to use it.  Now I LOVE IT.  It is my go to stamp set.

Here is a card I made for a workshop that was snowed out. (Did I mention I really don’t like snow??)  The awesome part was-wrhere the party was being held didn’t have snow.   Almost every single town I had to drive through did. So this group of ladies still got together to stamp.  The ones who knew how to stamp already shared ideas with the ladies who didn’t stamp.  How cool is that?  (I just love crafters, they always want to share.)  The hostess still passed out catalogs, order forms, etc.  She had an excellent workshop without me. (Gee maybe I shouldn’t let that get around.) However, we all crafted in spirit together.  They in one town, me in another.  I made all the workshop cards for the attendees.
