Sale-A-Bration Broke Stamper Unite

Hi Stampers, welcome to my Creative & Chaotic craft room! Today’s project features What I Love from the Sale-a-bration catalog which runs from January 5-March 31, 2016.  For every $50 you spend on stamping supplies, you will receive a free item from this special catalog.

what I love saleabration embossing resist

Even though this is a three step stamping set, I wanted to review a few techniques.  This card is an embossing resist technique.  I started with white shimmer paper, stamped with Versa Mark ink, and embossed with white embossing powder.  It can be difficult to see, if you tilt your card in the light will help.

After the embossing is done, I started to color with my sponge daubers.  I started with the center of the flowers.  I used Cajun Craze in the very center, then Pumpkin Pie, and Daffodil Delight.  I also sponged Daffodil Delight all over the card so it wouldn’t be stark white.  I sponged the leaves with Old Olive ink.  Don’t worry if you go outside the lines on this card.  It is fine.

Finally, I took a tissue to the top of the embossing,  This wipes off any extra ink, and really helps the white embossing pop.

My second card was also stamped and embossed white on Wisteria Wonder card stock .  I used the White Wash what i love white washtechnique.  It sounds complicated, but it means to paint it white with diluted ink.

I put a dab of my white craft ink refill on my silicone pad.  I added a few drops of water to mix in with it.  I used my aqua painter to fill in the flowers.  I used a tissue to dab my paint as I went.  I didn’t want my paper to get too wet.  Once I finished painting my flowers, I thought the leaf stems really stood out.  I traced around think leaves with the aqua painter.  I stamped a verse in the middle with white craft ink and embossed it in clear.  I mounted it onto a Blushing Bride base.

I’m very excited to see what Carol and Terri have made, and which sets from the Saleabration catalog they will use.  Check out Carol’b blog here and Terri’s blog here.

Broke Stampers Unite Color Challenge- December

Hi Stampers, welcome to my Creative & Chaotic craft room! Today’s project features a  Broke Stampers Unite color challenge.  This months colors include:  Soft Sky, Night of Navy, Tip Top Taupe, Rich Razzleberry and Whisper White.

wilderness awaits,As you all know, these color challenges with more than three colors is a struggle for me,  The way I have been overcoming this struggle is using makers.

My card base is Night of Navy, Soft Sky and Rich Razzleberry.  My Whisper White layer was put thru my Big Shot with the Woodland texture embossing folder.  I just love this folder.  I wish I had ordered when the Holiday Catalog came out.  However, I am glad I got mine.  If you haven’t ordered yours yet, get it NOW!  It won’t be returning :(

Ok, back to how I made my card.   Sponging on the actual embossing folder is a major part of this card.  I sponged Tip Top Taupe and Soft Sky on the smooth side of the embossing folder.  Then I stamped the dog from The Wilderness Awaits  directly onto the folder itself, using black ink.  I carefully placed my white card stock in the folder, and ran it through the Big Shot.

After embossing, I colored in the details with markers.  I did use my marker to color in the cracks of the birch trees on the embossing folder.  I think it helps give it a more realistic feel since many white birch trees have the color variations and peeling bark.  I think this technique of coloring and stamping onto the embossing folder makes wonderful masculine cards.  The Woodland folder will definitely stay in my collection of embossing folders to used for the men in my life.

I wonder what Carol and Terri have done with this color combination.  See Carol’s blog here and Terri’s blog here.  They always surprise me with their creations.  I think I will have a little chocolate while I check out their blogs. A Little Something Fancy Fold Card- Broke Stampers Unite Challenge

Hi Stampers, welcome to my Creative & Chaotic craft room! Today’s project features the A Little Something bundle, Versatile Christmas and another Broke Stampers Unite Challenge. This weeks challenge is a fancy fold card.

fancy fold card broke stampers unite challenge, a little something,I don’t know about you, but I am still trying to get my holiday cards competed.  Here is one more to add to my collection. It’s a Pop Out Swing Card.  This type of card can really wow your friends.  They will think the swinging motion is much more difficult than it is.

If you are part of my stamp club, you will be learning how to make this card this month.  If you are not, join me Friday and I will have a video tutorial.

Here is what the card looks like on the inside, when it is swinging open.                                               Stamping with Stace fancy fold card, broke stampers unite challenge

Isn’t it cute.  I love how the little snowflakes are just falling everywhere.   The verse on the inside and the front cover are from Versatile Christmas.  A few rhinestones for some holiday bling.

If you look closely at the insert.  It is a piece of whisper white card stock cut 5″ x 6″.  There are only two score lines.  On the six inch side, score at 2″ and 4″.

The “Pop Out” part of the card is the squares.  Mine are cut from black glimmer paper, whisper white and real red card stock. I cut them with the square framelits.  Again, if you’re a completely visual person who needs to see how it is put together I will have a video on Friday.

I wonder what Carol and Terri have created for this weeks challenge.  Check out Carol’s blog here.  Check out Terri’s blog here.  If you would like to join us and share your creation, join our new Facebook group.

Flurry of Wishes Winter Theme Challenge

Hi Stampers, welcome to my Creative & Chaotic craft room! Today’s project features the Flurry of Wishes and another Broke Stampers Unite Challenge.  This weeks challenge is a winter/Christmas themed card.

flurry of wishes, black and white, broke stampers uniteBefore we get started with this card, there is one thing you need to realize.  I am the post it note queen.  I buy them in bulk at the beginning of every school year.  I have them everywhere.  My desk at work, my desk at home, all over my house, I even have a journal type book filled with different types of sticky notes for all types of list making.

Most people are familiar with Post It brand sticky notes or any number of brands of sticky notes.  I have found out that people don’t realize, Post It brand makes a sticky tape.  if you  haven’t discovered this product, look for it the next time you go shopping.  If you’re a teacher buy extra! image

This stuff is great.  The entire surface is tacky.  It peels off like a breeze.  This product is great for many masking techniques.  It is what I used to make my straight lines on my card.

flurry of wishes, broke stampers unite challengeI used my grid paper to make sure I had everything aligned properly.  I then place a strip of tape across my card.  This provides a mask and helps hold the card in place.

I used my Basic Black marker to trace the edge of the tape.  This gave me a border for my verse.  I randomly stamped snowflakes over the entire card using my black ink pad.  I removed the tape. (Don’t throw the tape away, it can be used several times.) I used my basic black marker to ink the verse and stamped it within the border.

This another simple card that can be made for mass production at Christmas time.  Lay out several cards on your grid paper at once and stamp them all at the same time,  This will save you even more time.  I can comfortable get 4 cards done at once in just minutes.  Talk about the ultimate Creative Chaos time saver!

I’m glad I joined the ladies at Broke Stampers Unite. They challenge me to stretch myself. Lets see what the other ladies are up to. Visit Terri here, and Carol here. See our new Facebook page here.  Join us and share your winter themed card with us on Facebook.

Winter Sheltering Tree

Hi Stampers, welcome to my Creative & Chaotic craft room! Today’s project features the Sheltering Tree stamp set and embossing.

Stamping with Stace sheltering tree, white embossIt is a SUPER EASY card that can be easily massed produced for the holidays. Unfortunately, the glossy sheen  of the white embossing powder doesn’t show very well in this photo.

I simple took a half sheet of Night of Navy card stock and folded it in half.  I used my embossing buddy and versa mark stamp pad to stamp my snow  bank and tree.

I covered my card stock in white embossing powder. This is the point, before you heat the embossing powder, to check for an specks of embossing powder that shouldn’t be there.  I use a small paint brush to clean off any unwanted specks.  A simple card like this will show any extras that you don’t want on your image.

Now, that all your card only has embossing powder where you want it, heat set it with your embossing heat tool.  Finally, add a few rhinestones for a little extra bling.  Like I said, a quick and easy card for mass production for the holiday season.  Instead of a holiday greeting you could stamp a thank you greeting on the inside.

Sheltering Tree Double Stamping- Broke Stampers Unite Challenge

Hi Stampers, welcome to my Creative & Chaotic craft room! Today’s project features the Sheltering Tree stamp set for a challenge with Broke Stampers Unite.  I seem to be having a little theme lately with this stamp set.  I’ll have another card Friday.  What can I say, this is a wonderful stamp set!

I saw a card on Pinterest from Tami White.  I was fascinated by it and couldn’t figure out Stamping with Stace, sheltering tree.
how she did it.  Once I saw how she did it, I was “Duh, it’s just like triple stamping!” I’m going to call it Double Stamping since it’s two layers.

My card base and colored layer (1 5/8″x 4 3/8″) are Blackberry Bliss. My Whisper White layers are 5 1/4″x 4 ” and 1 1/4″x 4 1/4″.

Now you may be asking “Stace, how do you line up the tree so well?”  Here is the secret part.  You stamp the tree just one time.  Put the tiniest spot of adhesive on the back of the small white layer.  ( Bonus tip* I rub the layer on my jeans to make it even less tacky.  I don’t want this piece of white layer to be permanently fixed yet.  I want to be able to remove it.)  I place the small layer on my larger layer.  I ink my tree with Early Espresso ink and stamp on both layers at the same time.  if you look closely, the tree goes just a little above the white layer.

If you try this at home and you may notice a little gap between the two layer of white.  DO NOT PANIC!  This is fine.  The layer of Blackberry Bliss will cover that little gap.

I carefully removed the small white layer.  I first stamped with Hello Honey ink, then scrubbed the stamp with my Stampin’ Scrubber and Stampin’ Mist.  I stamped a second time with Tangelo Twist, but I moved my stamp slightly to the left this time to show the first layer.  Again I cleaned my stamp.  The third time, I stamped with Blackberry Bliss.  Moving it slightly to the left again to show the bottom layers of stamping.

Assembly is quite easy.  Adhere the small white layer on the colored layer.  Align these two layers with your larger white layer so the image has proper alignment.  Adhere all the layers to the card base.  Now you can amaze your friends with this simple but stunning Double Stamping technique.

I’m glad I joined the ladies at Broke Stampers Unite.  They challenge me to stretch myself.  Lets see what the other ladies are up to.  Visit Terri here, and Carol here.  See our Facebook page here.

Broke Stampers Unite Color Challenge-Sheltering Tree

Hi Stampers, welcome to my Creative & Chaotic craft room! Today’s project features a color challenge from Broke Stampers Unite.  The color combination that must be used are Tangelo Twist, Always Artichoke, Chocolate Chip, Cajun Craze, and Wild Wasabi.

Stamping with Stace-Broke Stampers Unite Color ChallengeNormally, I usually only use two or three colors.  Five is a big challenge for me.  Sometimes it is really good to be pushed out of our comfort zone a little. Sometimes when I see color challenges, I tend to think I have to use all the color in card stock.  I have to remind myself I can use a few colors for my card base and use multiple colored inks in my design.

I have loved the Sheltering Tree stamp set.  I had it for awhile before having time to use it.  Sheltering Tree is a “two step” stamp set.  First I stamped the tree base in Chocolate Chip.  I stamped the grass in Always Artichoke.  The stamp image that is usually used for the leaves on the tree, I inked with Wild Wasabi, Tangelo Twist and Cajun Craze to create the pile of fallen leaves that are on the ground.

I will post a super quick video on how to create cards using the Thumping Technique later this week.  Ok so I didn’t realize it was Wednesday already, so lets say Friday I will have the video posted for you.  It will be just the actual stamping, not the assembly of the card.

The card base is Chocolate Chip with a layer of Cajun Craze.  I stamped “My Friend” with Chocolate Chip ink on Cajun Craze card stock.  I punched it with a retired punch (I never get rid of my punches.)   The new Washi Label punch could be used for this or the  Word Window punch.  I used a Wild Wasabi candy dot for an accent.  Finally, I had to stamp a little rake to show how all the leaves got into a pile.

Butterfly Bokeh-Broke Stampers Unite Challenge

Hi Stampers, welcome to my Creative & Chaotic craft room! Today’s project features the Swallowtail stamp and the Bokeh technique.

bokeh butterflyIt wasn’t too long ago that I used this technique with my stamp club.  We did it making holiday cards.  You can see them here.  I love this technique because no two cards are the same.  Bokeh is a photography term for photo with lights that look like dots of color. bokeh_effect_resources-Bokeh-Effects-Pack-42-Free-Images

I absolutely love butterflies.  That was the start of this challenge for me (besides knowing I had to use the bokeh technique). From there, I chose my colors. Nice warm oranges and yellows. I used sponge daubers for this card.  Sometimes I use sponges that I cut into fourths.

Use which ever you have on hand.  Don’t panic if you think you white spots stand out quite a bit.  You design will look different once you stamp on it. broke stampers unite bokeh techniques

Rejoice- Bokeh Technique with Video Tutorial

Hi Stampers, welcome to my Creative & Chaotic craft room! Today’s project features the Bokeh Technique.  Bokeh is a photography term.  It means to have a blurred, out of focus image.  I tend to think of it as photos of lights that are out of focus and they are fuzzy colored dots.

Rejoice bokeh technique with video tutorial from Stamping with StaceI have been wanting to do this technique FOREVER!  But you know how it is, there is never enough time to stamp everything you want to.  Well, I decided if I really wanted to do this technique; probably people in my stamp club would want to do it as well.  The ladies LOVED it.  I am glad I decided to do this for a project.

It also “forced” me to do a video tutorial (my goal is try to have one every week).  I wanted my friends who couldn’t come to be able to see what it the heck I was talking about.  A cool thing about this card is that no two cards look exactly alike even when you make several at the same time.

You can see how to make this card here. Or watch it below.

Keep in mind this technique can be used with any color combination and and stamp set. It doesn’t have to be just for Christmas.  Heck, you could even used the shaped framelits for a different shape other than circles. Is it a lot easier than you thought?  Give it a try in your craft room.

Monarchs and Milkweeds

Hi Stampers, welcome to my Creative & Chaotic craft room! Today’s project features Butterfly Basics bundle set!  I just love butterflies, so when this bundle came out I knew I had to have it.  Unfortunately, it sat in my craft pile for a long time.

butterfly basics black glitter cardAutumn is here.  The oner day was one of our last warm days.  It was sunny and beautiful. I still have a few flowers in my garden. Ok, so really it’s more of a bed of weeds with a few flowers. It is mostly a bed of wildflowers that are supposed to attract humming birds and butterflies.  I planted three milkweed plants that a friend was digging out of her garden.  This year is the first year any oimagef them had pods.  I’m so excited.

Monarch butterflies depend on milkweed which inspired my card.  I love the new black glitter paper.  It doesn’t have to be just for Halloween.  It adds beauty and bling to this card.  I used my new Precision Plate to help cut the butterflies out.

My card base is Pumpkin Pie card stock.  I layered with Wild Wassabi. I stamped the ferns with Pear Pizzaz.  I used the butterfly thinlit to cut out the butterfly shape.  I used dimensionals to raise it as well. Next, I cut a butterfly out of Basic Black card stock and glued that directly to the Pumpkin Pie base.  I cut a second black butterfly out of the butterfly basics black glitter cardBlack Glitter paper.  I glued the body to the first butterfly.  Fluff the wings for a little dimension.  Ooops, someplace in there I stamped the verse with Pumpkin Pie.  Im not sure if layering the thinlits this way has a special name or not.  If I had to guess, I would call it inlay. That’s what it is called in woodworking.

This card reminds me of summer as resist autumn and winters arrival.  I hope you enjoy it too.

You’ve Got This Tape Technique

Hi Stampers, welcome to my Creative & Chaotic craft room! Today’s project features painters tape and You Got This stamp set for my first post as the newest member of Broke Stampers Unite challenge team! Don’t you just love their name?? I will give you a little more info on the group after I share my card.

you got this masking/painter tape techniqueSo for awhile now, I have wanted to create a card with the masking/painter tape technique.  It is super easy for when you have a Creative and Chaotic moment.  Every card will be unique because no two backgrounds end up being the same.

The first step is to find a roll of left over painters tape or masking tape from the garage. (Who knows what other stamping treasures you may find while you’re out there.  This dryer tape looks interesting.)

Next, tear of a piece of the painters tape and place it sticky side down in your ink pad.  Don’t worry!  This won’t hurt your ink pad.  Rub it gently to get it all inked up.  Basically, the tape is becoming your background stamp.

painters masking tape techniqueI am using two inch wide tape since that is what I had.  Use whatever width you have.  Make more or less stripes depending on your color choice. If you click on the image to the left, you will see how I am putting my tape right onto my ink pad and how I have place the tape right on my card.  I used grid paper to help keep my lines somewhat straight.  (Don’t look too closely because you will notice the card in this photo is in landscape.  I didn’t like how the colors turned out.  I flipped my card stock over and tried again, but I changed my mind on what image I wanted to stamp as well; so I changed the position to portrait.)

Once you have all your strips of tape onto your card, gently rub the tape down to make sure your ink is transferred.  Peel the tape off your card and you have an unique, one of a kind background. The best part of painters tape is that it isn’t super sticky to begin with, so it won’t damage your card stock.

Finally, I  inked the flower image and verse from You’ve Got This and stamp it in the middle of your card.  Ta-daaaa! An elegant card that take only minutes to make.

Check out other Broke Stampers Unite challenge masking/painters tape techniques with Terri and Carol. Please join us every Wednesday.  Each month there are challenges on themes, techniques, color combos, and stamp sets.  Next week is a color combo challenge.

Frankie Pillow Box with Video Tutorial

Hi Stampers, welcome to my Creative & Chaotic craft room!

Do you every find a imageproduct  that you just love and sit and play with it over and over and over?  I am having a ball with the new Square Pillow Box die! I have made all sorts of of boxes with this die.  One of the first ones I made was a  Frankie boxes.

Not long ago someone posted a Halloween treat using a name brand of chocolate.  I thought, hmmmm I could make something like those!  They would be so cute inside Frankie boxes!

imageCan you see what my special treats are?  Rice Krispies treats with green food coloring added to the marshmallow mixture. Once the treats hardened, I cut them into squares.  I melted a bowl full of chocolate chips in the microwave (30 seconds at a time).  I dipped the heads of my treats into the melted chocolate.  The eyes are white chocolate candy melts.  I didn’t want to melt them and draw circles, so I did something a little bizarre.  I meltedimage one side of them and then stuck them onto the rice squares.  Chocolate coated candies are the eyes.  A yummy Frankie treat to go in your adorable Frankie box.

I wrapped each one in a cellophane bag. A bit of silver cording tied into a bow closes the package.

So would you like to see how these boxes are made? Check it out here:

What an easy way to create a super special treat for some special at Halloween.  My daughter helped make these and she had a super fun time making them.  They’re as much fun to make as give!

In this particular pillow box I have kept it simple.  It is made with Happy Hauntings Designer Series Paper and Basic Gray card stock.  A little stamping on Vanilla card stock using a stamp from Sweet Hauntings. I have been away from my computer for a few days and I have been SO anxious to get back to it.  I have made a video that I have been itching to share with you. It all started when I saw a box card on Facebook.  I knew I wanted to make right away.  Then, I had a club member that asked if I could come up with a card using the Happy Scenes Bundle.  It instantly came to me what I wanted to create for a stamp club project! A box card with a window opening looking outside. And we know how much I love these bundles! Who doesn’t like saving 15%??

Cutie Pie Candy Corn-video tutorial

Hi Stampers, welcome to my Creative Spa.

Last week I had a post using the Cutie Pie framelit which featured Rudolf.  You can see it here if you missed it.  I made a Christmas tree as well that day very quickly.  The next time I make a tree, I think I will use Lovely as a Tree to give it some texture.image

The day that I made Rudolf and a tree, I also envisioned candy corn for Halloween.  Is there any occasion this die cannot be used for?  It was meant to be a slice of cake.  It could be a birthday cake; it could be a wedding cake.  It could be a piece of pie. (and just think how many types of pie there are(.

So the first thing I did when I work up was make a cup of coffee and headed to my craft room with my iPad to record a video.

So here is my Cutie Pie Candy Corn Video

Aren’t they just as cute a can be?  I hope you have a great time using this new die from Stampin’ Up!

Monochromatic Challenge

Hi Stampers, welcome to my Creative Spa,

Lately I have had to find inspiration from all sorts of places.  One of them was a Virtual Stamp Day challenge.  It is a day that you are given a challenge and you are supposed to post your photo to the group in an email.

FullSizeRender_2The first challenge was a monochromatic card.  I had been stamping a little earlier that day and I had a stamp set, Work of Art and Gorgeous Grunge, on my desk and my black Stazon ink.  You guess it, a black and white card!

To get the gray tones, I stamped off (stamp on scrap paper before stamping on your project) first.  The verse I stamped full strength on the card. I believe the inside of the card I just used a thank you from the Work of Art set.  I added a little bling of rhinestones on the bottom.

Everyone in the group loved it.  They even convinced me to join a masculine card swap. The only changes I made were: I left out the heart and instead of rhinestones, I used candy dots. I can’t wait to see what the other stampers created. I should be getting them back in the mail within the next week or so.  I will share everyone’s creative ideas with you when they come in.

Thanks to a Cat Groomer

imageHere is a Thank You card to send to my local pet groomer.  She did an amazing job shaving my cat.  Yes, you heard me correctly, shaving my cat.  My cat has fur that is 3″ long.  Needless to say spring/summer consists of fur everywhere!

10460205_925717057455417_5371327243211475773_nSo here is a photo of Spaz before in the morning.  Everyone thinks he is the fatter of my two cats.  He’s actually all fur.10376283_925717037455419_6789116964395877766_n

So back to my card.  It is made with retired colors.  I couldn’t even tell you which colors exactly.  It was made with current stamps and punches.

The fence is the wood background stamp.  The cats face is a 1″ circle punch. The eyes are Neutral Candy Dots with marker pupils.  The nose and whiskers were also drawn on.  The ears are punched from Elegant Butterfly Punch and Small Butterfly Punch.  The body is the 1 1/2″ circle punch.  The tail I cut free hand. The flowers are punched with the flower punch from Itty Bitty Accent Punch Pack.  Of course a few rhinestones for a little touch of bling.
